I found another Unitly Box

Well as you can see I have been on the hunt again for Art in North Richland Hills.  If you should drive to the library over off Mid-Cities drive you will see the above piece of art work.  This was the first time I have ever been over in that area and while driving around I found a Krogers and a shopping area with apartments over head that apparently never took off.  The apartments look like they are all in use but there are only a few restaurants in the area, a spa, and one other store but that was about it.

I also found this utility box at the corner of Mid-Cities before the turn to the library.  It represents the colors and team of the Birdville High School.

The quest continues with the Dinosaurs

You can see the quest continues of locating art in North Richland Hills, Texas. These were taken at the Technical High School. It is an enrichment program for Student who have interest in any kind of technology. I noticed these creatures one day when I was going shopping and the next time I brought my camera with to snap the pictures. I enjoy taking pictures around town in the spring and fall but this summer heat gets to me so the quest has been some what slow.
I was also having some problems getting online The software package I used for anti-virus protection didn't let me get connect. But I now have the connection under control and everything is setup the way it is suppose to me yea me.
I have never considered myself a poet but I am fascinated by Haiku's and Senryu's. So here is my humble attempt Haiku to the Dinosaur.
Winter has descended
These Creatures once walked the earth
Metal portraits them

A Quest for Art in North Richland Hills, TX

I have decided to go on a quest. What is this quest you may ask? The Quest is to find Art in North Richland Hills and over the next year hopefully I will bring to you all the Art that I can find in North Richland Hills, Texas.
As you can see I have found another light Utility box this one was by Richland High School it is in their school colors; their teams are the Richland Rebels. As I was driving down the street next to the school I just happen to look on top of the school and I saw these Electric possible air conditioning boxes on top of the high school and they are decorated with a sky and cloud motive.
I wonder if the art department at the school was involved in this project. It just goes to show that Art can be found in the unexpected places.

4th of July Utility Box Art

Well it's the day after the 4th of July and I just happen to see this utility box on Holiday Lane. It shows the American Flag and the Declaration of Independence in the background. I wish I had found this one sooner. I always enjoyed the 4th of July going on picnics, watching the fireworks, listening to patriotic music on my favorite country station. Remembering the men and women who have fought for the freedom that we enjoy.

This is the other one that I found it is on the corner of Chapman and Smithfield. Its a picture of Kitchen refrigerator art. It is suppose to be an old Electra refrigerator. I figure most of America has this kind of refrigerator art; magnets, children's art work, family picture, and grocery shopping list. My daughter was taking German one year and I found some German language magnets so she would arrange sentences on the refrigerator. Then she had to tell me what it meant.
I found this poem in I hope you enjoy it.
Americans in Strength
By Roger Robicheau
Americans in strength unite
This Union born in freedom's light
United States, how sure we are
We'll pull together, near and far
The world can see of what we're made
Each state is of the highest grade
Determination, filled with pride
Our people's will won't be denied
Our founding fathers set to stay
The road we've traveled to this day
A quest for right cannot be wrong
With help from God, we will stay strong
Support our troops ranks number one
For the job they do is never done
When forced they put it on the line
True patriots, when called they shine
Let's raise Old Glory with a Cheer
And thank all soldiers, past and here.

The Horn Toad an Object of Art

Well as you can see I found another Utility Box this time it is on the corner of Rufe Snow and Stardust. I think. The Horn Toad is a creature that is almost extinct in the state of Texas. I grew up with them in Lubbock and Midland when I was younger but you don't see them much any more. They are more of a west Texas creature and then East Texas.

I found this poem on Authors Den about the Desert Horned Toad By Chuck Keller. Here's the Web site

Not rated by the Author.

I chased these little horned lizards in the Nevada desert as a child.

I tried to make the poem look like the creature when centered on the page.

Darting eyes,
flicking tongue.
Scampering tracks in desert sand.
Tail makes a wiggly line
between tiny footprints.
Its journey in search
of food and survival
beneath the blistering
and relentless
desert sun.
Struggling daily to live
another cycle of sun to moon.

Highway Art

In North Richland Hills, Texas you may notice these traffic signal boxes on Rufe Snow and on Davis. The Cowgirl has been there for a while but the one on the left is rather new. It shows several bakeries and cafe types of houses. I do not know who is in charge of the painting of these boxes but I think it is a great idea. I know these boxes have to be at each traffic light but there is no reason for them to be the usual ugly gray.
Across Texas you can find city and towns starting to think about the decorative tourist angle. In Midland, Texas when you go through and underpass you'll notice the column towers holding up the bridge itself are painted like oil cores because the city is known for the oil industry and the oil Museum. In Odessa, Texas when they built an overpass withing the last 5 years they used decorative tiles on the sides of the over pass where they build up the dirt before the bridge itself was laid across to hold in the dirt. The tiles depict a desert plant series.
All over Texas I have noticed more highway art appearing in different places you wouldn't suspect. In Dallas, Texas on the High 5 which is what they call the series of bridges criss-crossing the I75 and I635 interchange there are the lone star of Texas with a blue circle around it. I hope all this art is a continuing trend of the future.
